The Tower of London is undoubtedly our favourite major tourist attraction in London.

It is amazing to see this castle, constructed in 1078, still standing in the very heart of London today. When first built, the Tower of London was just the ‘White Tower’, which currently stands in the centre of the site and over the years this palatial home was expanded.

Most of the Tower of London is self-guided, but we recommend you begin your visit with one of the tours held by the Yeoman Warders or ‘Beefeaters’ who live inside the Tower. Throughout the tour, you will get a whirlwind look at the gruesome history of the Tower and visit some of the key locations throughout the site.

Once you have finished the tour, feel free to explore the rest of the site. Every direction you go in there are intriguing exhibitions to visit.

You can walk across the top of the castle’s walls, see The Queen’s Crown Jewels up close, and learn about the history of the Tower from executions to traitors and even the large fire. Plus, learn about how the royals loved to keep exotic animals such as lions and elephants as pets.

A minimum of three to four hours is needed for a good overview of the Tower if visiting on your own, so we recommend you start early in the morning.

With our private tour of the Tower of London with a licensed guide, we can show you the Tower in the way it should be seen, as we bring this incredible place to life.
